There has been plenty to smile about at White House Care Home in Letchworth Garden City, with three very special animal visitors bringing excitement, curiosity and lots of affection to our residents and team.
First up was Fred the tortoise, who came to visit thanks to our lovely receptionist Mandy. Fred is over 70 years old, making her quite the character and certainly an interesting guest! Residents enjoyed meeting her and finding out more about their long-lived visitor. We were delighted to spend time with Fred and are already looking forward to seeing her again once she has finished her hibernation.

We also welcomed Barbie the barn owl, giving residents and staff the chance to see this beautiful bird up close. For some, it was their first time seeing an owl so closely, making the visit a particularly memorable experience. Everyone enjoyed learning about Barbie and taking in her distinctive features. Our monthly animal visits are always something residents look forward to, and this one was no exception.

The biggest cuddles came with a visit from Jennifer the pig. It did not take long for everyone to fall in love with her, and there were plenty of affectionate moments as residents enjoyed spending time with their unexpected four-legged friend. By the time Jennifer had to leave, she had left plenty of smiles behind, and more than a few people were wishing she could stay a little longer!

Animal visits offer more than a welcome change to the usual routine. Spending time with animals can provide sensory stimulation, encourage conversation and bring people together through a shared experience. Their different sounds, textures and personalities can spark curiosity and help residents engage with the world around them. For some, meeting an animal may also bring back treasured memories of pets they have owned or animals they have cared for throughout their lives.
At White House Care Home, we know how much these visits mean to our residents. Whether it is admiring an owl, meeting a tortoise with decades of life behind her or enjoying cuddles with a friendly pig, each encounter brings something different to the day.
A big thank you to everyone who helps make our animal visits possible. We are already looking forward to finding out which special visitors will join us next month!
