What is Dementia Care?

Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of symptoms that affect a person’s memory as well as their cognitive abilities in order to carry out daily tasks. Some individuals living with dementia may have a less severe type of dementia, whereas others will require a higher degree of care and support in daily life.

Dementia care in a care home enables a person to live a full life while in the capable hands of a professional and experienced care team. Many people will often take on the duty of a carer for their loved one at home, however, this often takes its toll over a period of time, and as the condition progresses. Moving a family member to a dementia care home will help to relieve the stresses and worries of everyone involved.

Residential Care

Residential care is best suited for people who are struggling to maintain their household or for support required to complete everyday tasks. Residents can enjoy a varied lifestyle by spending their time pursuing their interests, and eating delicious home-cooked meals while housekeeping duties are taken off their hands.

Each person who receives residential care will have their own care plan that will be strictly followed by the team to ensure effective care is given at all times. If care needs change over time, care plans can also be altered to meet ever-changing needs.

Nursing Care

Nursing care is a type of care given to those who need a higher level of care including medical and personal care within a 24 hour basis. Nursing care can aid those with physical disabilities, high dependency needs and long-term health conditions, as well as those that require palliative care.

Our nursing home has a team of qualified nurses who are decided in making a resident’s stay as comfortable as possible. Every resident will have a dedicated key nurse who will take care of their well-being needs, administer medication, assist with personal care needs and provide support to both residents and loved ones.

Respite Care

Respite care is a type of care offered on a short-term basis, where full-time carers can have a well-deserved break from their caring duties while their loved one is taken care of by our team. Respite care can also benefit individuals who have recently had an illness, injury or operation, allowing them to get back on their feet.

Respite care can also be used to trial a care home for a few weeks before making the decision to move in fully. No matter how long someone needs respite care for, our team will go above and beyond to ensure everyone’s stay is as pleasant as possible.

Here to Support You & Your Family

When searching for a dementia care home in Letchworth Garden City for yourself or a family member, it can often be difficult to which care home is right for someone as you would want to find the perfect home. At White House, we offer our support every step of the way. Our Home Manager will sit down with a prospective resident and their loved ones to discuss an appropriate care type for the person in need of care once we complete a full evaluation of their needs, and answer questions that may arise.

Following admission, our team will then customise a care plan that’s solely tailored to their individual health and well-being needs. A member of staff will help residents settle into their new home to ensure they feel at ease during this time. White House is regulated by the Care Quality Commission. The Care Quality Commission is an independent regulator that assesses all care homes in England and provides an overall rating to make sure they meet a certain standard.
